Find out more about how she does it in this interview, for Sapphic Fiction February!

(Yesterday was also her birthday. Happy belated birthday Jourdyn!)

Introduce yourself! Tell us a little bit about you - who are you, and what do you do?

I’m a best selling author of sapphic romance.

What made you want to sit down and write your first book?

A tough childhood made me live in my imagination. But it wasn’t until after I saw Diane Lane in Unfaithful that I knew writing was what I wanted to do.

How do you develop your plots and characters?

I basically sit in a dark room and have conversations with myself. I also just sit at the computer and let them develop themselves.

Which of your characters do you relate to the most, and why?

Probably Eve and Rebecca. They have the most of me put into their personalities.

Has your own writing ever made you cry?

Yes. It’s not easy writing some of the things I’ve written. From abuse to being an amputee. It takes its toll.

Does anyone you know in real life read your books?

Yes, I have friends who read my books.

Imagine your book, or one of your books, was made into a film. Who would play the lead roles?

Eve - Delta Goodrem, Lainey - Diane Lane, Rebecca - Blake Lively, Hunter - Lucy Lawless. Those are the main ones I can think of.

When you’re not writing, what do you do to relax?

Paint, put Legos together, or play solitaire.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given with regards to being an author?

Be yourself. Write for yourself. Don’t write to please other people because ultimately, you can’t please everyone. You may as well love what you write or it won’t be worth it.

How about in general life?

Be yourself. Love yourself.

What is a motto you live by?

Delta Goodrem has a song called Welcome to Earth and there’s a line “We were made to live our dreams out loud.” That’s what, at nearly 50, I’ve decided to live by. Life is short. Live your dreams.

How can people connect with you?

I’m all over social media. Twitter, instagram @JourdynK I’m also on Facebook under Author Jourdyn Kelly or my secret society of JoKels. You can also check me out on Patreon. All of my links are on my website, Jourdynkelly.com or my linktree https://linktr.ee/jourdynkelly

Finally a light-hearted one. If you were a sandwich, what sandwich would you be?

I would be a club sandwich! Filled with all the good stuff! Ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes….
